Welcome to WE Share Community Power
We’re building a smarter, fairer, community-driven energy future — starting right here on Waiheke Island.
WE Share is a community-led initiative made up of local people, partners, and organisations working together to create a fairer, more resilient energy future for Waiheke
We’re not a retailer or installer — WE Share is a values based community Framework designed to facilitate community scale clean energy goals.
We are proud to partner with key stakeholders Ecotricity, SEANZ and the University of Auckland for an islandwide Community Power Project
Our Pilot is Live
We’re launching a bold, real-world test of what community-powered energy can look like. Homeowners, businesses, community halls, schools and solar installers across Waiheke are coming together to create a better model — with local benefits and national relevance.
We’re strongly supported by our extended network of experts and innovators:
- Key infrastructure partners: Ecotricity – New Zealand’s only Toitū climate positive certified 100% renewable electricity provider and provide WE Share’s Virtual Power Plant system.(VPP)
- Solar sector: SEANZ (installation, technical and safety standards), supported by an emerging ecosystem of distributed-energy innovators offering peer-to-peer trading, community-level optimisation, and open, transparent data-layer tools.
- Academic Partner: University of Auckland (multiple disciplinary support)
- Regulatory analysis and oversight: Electricity Authority of New Zealand — Power Innovation Pathway programme (formal application under consideration).
